Haandi co-owner Madan Sundriyal said he feels fortunate to have found a new spot not far from the one his Indian restaurant enjoyed for 20 years before redevelopment pushed it and other longtime favorites out.
After reopening on Sunday, Haandi was open for its lunch buffet today, an opportunity for many of its most loyal customers to come back after about four months of renovation in the old Uptown Deli space at 7905 Norfolk Ave.
“We were searching for almost two-and-a-half years and hadn’t found a spot,” Sundriyal said. “We wanted to stay in Bethesda but we had limited choices. We wanted to stay in Bethesda because our customers are very loyal, they kept calling, some came to our Falls Church location. But that’s too far for them.”
Sundriyal arranged to take over the space from a new owner of the Uptown Deli, which despite some big opening buzz was struggling by the time it closed last summer.
Look for an expanded menu in the next few months.
